- TODAY'S BIBLE TEXT
Text: Psalm 37:1-5
1 Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. 2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. 3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. 4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. 5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

COMMIT YOURSELF TO THE LORD
Text: Psalm 37:1-5
Memory verse: Psalm 37: 5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
There are a lot of differences between submitting and committing ourselves to God. When you submit, you are coming under and embracing the rule of God over your life. But when you commit to God, you are committed to His agenda. We commit ourselves to everything else and everyone else but not to God. We feel that the Lord will always be there, and I can go to Him anytime I get ready, His grace will not always abide with man. We have to stop committing to the wrong thing and get committed to God’s will and agenda for our lives. Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.
I had a super-talented friend in school. He was great at football, baseball, basketball, on track, he was smart; he was five-fold talented. Now he would be at my parent’s house more than he would be at his own. This was everyday even on holidays; he even came to church with us sometimes even with his Muslim background. It didn’t bother us because he was respectable, kind, and we welcomed him in our home.
But the one thing that I didn’t know about him was the problems that he was facing when he would go home; the verbal abuse, the neglect, broken promises, the interfering, the teasing, by his own siblings, there were so many things that was going on, but he kept it to himself and had a smile on his face because around us he could be who he was without ridicule and persecution.
One day he sent for me, there was no mobile phone then, I sent a message back to him that I was going out but will get back to him when I return no matter the time. I told him that I would, but I never did because I was too busy committing myself to what I wanted to do. I kept hearing something to see him, but I did not obey. The next day people kept asking me, is your friend dead? I saw him the day before and it hit me, “I did not see him when he wanted to see me. when I got in.” I went to see what was going on. I get to his house, and I asked for him and his family told me that he had killed himself.
I lost a friend, a great talent because I disobeyed the urge to reach out to him even when he sent for me. Lord, have mercy. We never know what a person is going through because we are too busy committing ourselves to things that we should never be committed to. When we commit ourselves to the things that we believe to be important we miss out on the bigger picture.
- TODAY'S HYMNAL
CGDS HYMN 46: SS & S 585:
JESUS CHRIST, GROW THOU IN ME
1. Jesus Christ, grow Thou in me,
And all things else recede !
My heart be daily nearer Thee,
From sin be daily freed.
2. Each day let Thy supporting might
My weakness still embrace;
My darkness vanish in Thy light,
Thy life my death efface.
3. In Thy bright beams which on me fall
Fade every evil thought ;
That I am nothing, Thou art all,
I would be daily taught.
4. More of Thy glory let me see,
Thou Holy, Wise, and True !
I would Thy living image be,
In joy and sorrow too.
5. Fill me with gladness from above,
Hold me by strength Divine :
Lord, let the glow of Thy great love
Through my whole being shine.
6. Make this poor self grow less and less,
Be Thou my life and aim ;
Oh, make me daily through Thy grace
More meet to bear Thy name !
