  • TODAY'S BIBLE TEXT

    Text: Titus 1:9Text: Acts 6:1-6

And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.   Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.   Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.   But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.   And the saying pleased the whole multitude:  and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:  Whom they set before the apostles:  and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

THE WORD OF WISDOM IS USED IN PROBLEM SOLVING

    Text: Acts 6:1-6

Memory verse: Acts 6:3 Therefore select from among you, brothers, seven men of good report, full of the Holy Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

Wisdom in solving problems often requires compliance and flexibility. The capacity to adjust strategies and approaches to respond to changing circumstances or new information is a sign of wisdom. Wisdom recognizes that rigid adherence to a single solution may not always be the best course of action.

The word of wisdom can also be used in solving much more difficult problems. When the apostles were distracted from preaching the gospel because of business or the congregational administrative matters, they chose certain believers to help them as administrators. Therefore, brothers were picked out from among you. Seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint to this duty. One of the requirements was wisdom, which was used in solving problems in the church.

The gift of the ‘word of wisdom’ often works in conjunction with the ‘word of knowledge’. A direct word of knowledge from the Holy Spirit will help solve problems or a predicament we are handling. There are other times that a ‘word of knowledge’ will not be enough to solve the dilemma. This is when we need a ‘word of wisdom’. The ‘word of wisdom’ will give one the ability to apply the knowledge appropriately in a particular circumstance. The ‘word of wisdom’ can also be the ability to make assessments and give guidance that is according to God's will. The ‘word of knowledge’ is the ability to have an in-depth perceptive of a spiritual issue or circumstances. The ‘word of wisdom’ will prevent us from making mistakes, from rushing into situations and making wrong judgments by taking hasty and often irrelevant decisions, thereby possibly causing a problem, and in turn a misunderstanding or at times bringing offence to people.

Godly wisdom is the capacity to see things as God sees them, and to obtain spiritual insight into the heart of the matter so that we will know what the right and appropriate action to take in a particular circumstance. These are supernatural perspectives to ascertain the divine means for accomplishing God’s will in each situation. Divinely given power to appropriate spiritual insight in problem solving. A sense of divine direction. Knowledge that is rightly applied: wisdom works interactively with knowledge and discernment.
