THE SPECIAL GIFT OF WISDOM
- TODAY'S BIBLE TEXT
Text: 1 Corinthians 1:20-25
20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. 22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: 23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; 24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. 25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

THE SPECIAL GIFT OF WISDOM
Text: 1 Corinthians 1:20-25
Memory verse: 1 Corinthians 1: 25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
The gift of the word of wisdom. Apostle Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 12:8 He said, ‘For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit. There is difference in opinion as to the Meaning and purpose of this gift. Bible-believers differ on the exact nature of the gift of the word of wisdom. Some believe it was a temporary gift given to believers to receive and understand divine revelation. Others do not believe that this was the sole purpose of the gift.
The gift of the word of wisdom is different from the Word of Knowledge. The word of knowledge is the supernatural understanding of some type of truth while the word of wisdom uses knowledge for its proper end, to further God’s kingdom. The Word of Wisdom Is Not Human Genius, the gift of the word of wisdom transcends any human genius, or insight. It is a supernatural gift of God that only the Holy Spirit can impart. Apostle Paul made it clear that the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God.
The NLT version of the bible said in 1 Corinthians 1:20-25 ‘So where does this leave the philosophers, the scholars, and the world’s brilliant debaters? God has made them all look foolish and has shown their wisdom to be useless nonsense. Since God in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never find him through human wisdom, he has used our foolish preaching to save all who believe. God’s way seems foolish to the Jews because they want a sign from heaven to prove it is true. And it is foolish to the Greeks because they believe only what agrees with their own wisdom. So, when we preach that Christ was crucified, the Jews are offended, and the Gentiles say it’s all nonsense. But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is the mighty power of God and the wonderful wisdom of God. This “foolish” plan of God is far wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God’s weakness is far stronger than the greatest of human strength’.
God’s wisdom is not the same as the wisdom of the world.
- TODAY'S HYMNAL
CGDS Hymn 17; SS & S 23;
TO GOD BE THE GLORY, GREAT THINGS HE HATH DONE
1. To God be the glory, great things He hath done,
So loved He the world that He gave us His Son,
Who yielded His life our redemption to win,
And opened the life-gate that all may go in.Refrain
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the earth hear His voice;
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the people rejoice;
Oh, come to the Father, through Jesus the Son,
And give Him the glory; great things He hath done.2. Oh, perfect redemption, the purchase of blood,
To every believer the promise of God;
The vilest offender who truly believes,
That moment from Jesus a pardon receives.3. Great things He hath taught us, great things He hath done,
And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son;
But purer, and higher, and greater will be
Our wonder, our transport when Jesus we see. - TODAY'S PRAYERS
