THE WORD OF KNOWLEDGE “From feelings”
Text: John 1:47-48
Memory verse: Mark 2:8 And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, why reason ye these things in your hearts?
Sometimes unusual physical sensations or bodily impressions reveal important things. Jesus read their thoughts by his divine insight, and not because of any recognized habit or tendency on their part to criticize him, for this is the first recorded indication of hostility on the part of the Pharisees, though it is implied. Such discernment of the thought was to be a characteristic mark of the expected Messiah as in Isaiah 11:2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; 3 And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears.
Jesus in John 2:25 And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man. It is also an attribute peculiar to God. Jesus could see invisible sin, and could forgive it or condemn it, as the conditions moved him. The powers of discernment, forgiveness and condemnation made him the perfect Judge.
The word of knowledge can be received through simply feeling the pain as a physical symptom. This is most often felt in association with the gift of healing. Often the vessel simply feels the pain in the same area in his own body. A Pastor was preaching and suddenly he got a very severe migraine. He recognized that this may be a word of knowledge, so he stopped preaching and asked “is anyone here with bad migraine headache? We need to pray with you”. Two people responded, received prayer and the Pastor continued his preaching, the migraine headache disappeared completely. Of course, as with all revelatory gifts, discernment and common sense are necessary, a pain in the chest might be a word of knowledge or it might be a heart attack.
Sometimes a word of knowledge is received as an empathetic feeling. An overwhelming feeling which is not related to our circumstances, often experienced in a ministry situation. Whilst praying with someone and there is a strong feeling of sadness, or heaviness, or joy. That is the word of knowledge as the Lord allows us to feel something that the other person is experiencing.
