HOLY SPIRIT FILLS US
- TODAY'S BIBLE TEXT
Text: Acts 2:1-7
1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. 5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. 6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. 7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?

HOLY SPIRIT FILLS US
Text: Acts 2:1-7
Memory verse: Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
A follower of Jesus that is empowered to live the life God intended for them by submitting to the presence, power, and purpose of the Holy Spirit in their lives is one filled with the Holy Spirit. While it is true that the Christian life is impossible to live out of our own strength, God does not want defeat and discouragement to characterize the believer’s life. This is why God provided His Holy Spirit. He has commanded believers to live the Christian life by being filled with the Spirit.
To be empowered is to draw energy, inspiration and to be authorized. The energy to live a Spiritual life can only be supplied by the Holy Spirit. Christians are only commanded to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
Apostle Paul said in Ephesians 5:18 “And do not take overmuch wine by which one may be overcome but be full of the Spirit.” The image that Apostle Paul used was not random or accidental. When a person is drunk with wine, they are controlled by and influenced by that wine, and they do things they would not normally do. Paul is saying, allow the Holy Spirit to empower you to do things in and through you that you cannot do naturally.
Remember, Jesus calls His followers to live their lives in a way that is impossible to achieve on their own strength. But when you are filled with the Spirit, you find yourself loving supernaturally and experiencing joy in the midst of suffering and injustice. You start growing more deeply in love with Jesus, boldly and courageously telling others about Him. And you find yourself joyfully inspired and worshiping, among many other things.
Proverbs 20:1 Wine makes men foolish, and strong drink makes men come to blows; and whoever comes into error through these is not wise. He sets the sober and holy assemblies of the faithful against the immoral banquets of the unfaithful, in which the praises of the only Lord must ring, whether it is in prosperity or diversity. It comes with every type of disorder, together with every manner of filthiness and shamefulness. Since wine and strong drink darken the reason, bring the soul under the control of excitement and passion, and thus prepare it for foolishness and wickedness of every sort, no wise man will give himself up to their power.
On the contrary, to be filled with the Holy Spirit is to be entirely under his sacred influence and power. In Luke 1: 41 And when the voice of Mary came to the ears of Elisabeth, the baby made a sudden move inside her; then Elisabeth was full of the Holy Spirit. She was filled with joy; with a disposition to praise God; with a prophetic spirit and a knowledge of the character of the child that should be born through her. All these were products of the Holy Ghost. To be filled with anything is a phrase denoting that all the talents are infused by it, engaged in it, or under its influence.
- TODAY'S HYMNAL
CGDS Hymn 13;
FILL MY CUP LORD
1. Like the woman at the well, I was seeking
For things that could not satisfy.
And then I heard my Savior speaking
“Draw from My well that never shall run dry.”Refrain
Fill my cup, Lord;
I lift it up Lord;
Come and quench this thirsting of my soul.
Bread of Heaven, feed me till I want no more.
Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole.2. There are millions in this world who are seeking
For pleasures earthly goods afford.
But none can match the wondrous treasure
That I find in Jesus Christ my Lord.3. So my brother if the things that this world gives you
Leave hungers that won’t pass away,
My blessed Lord will come and save you
If you kneel to Him and humbly pray— - TODAY'S PRAYERS
