7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear;  but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.   8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner:  but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;  9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, 10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:

CAPACITY TO RECEIVE THE GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT?

Text: 2 Timothy 1:7-10

Memory verse: 1 Corinthians 12:3

"Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost."

According to the plan and will of God, a person instantly receives the Holy Spirit when he genuinely accepts the Lord Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Saviour according to Romans 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. That is, the person must first be convicted, believe in the heart and subsequently confesses that Jesus Christ is Lord.

Apostle Paul reminded us that we were Gentiles carried away by “dumb idols.” Not to forget that we are no longer carried away by idols but instead are grafted into the family of God. Romans 11:17 And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree by the blood of Jesus Christ. Apostle Paul reassured us that every Believer has the Holy Spirit and is “spiritual enough” to receive because of His indwelling. If you were not “spiritual enough,” you could not have been able to declare that Jesus Christ is Lord. Do not forget who you are now in Christ Jesus. Don’t forget that your past does not dictate your future because, in Him, you have been reconciled and restored. You have been given a hope and a future far better than you can imagine.

Apostle Paul exhorts the Corinthians not to be “uninformed.” In short, to stand firm in what is true and stay awake because, the enemy is walking about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Because the thief is coming to steal, kill, and destroy. The enemy exalts himself and wants you to put ‘anything and all things’ above God. 2 Corinthians 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. God wants you to know what is good, acceptable, and His will. God wants you to experience the blessings of love, power, and a sound mind and not live in fear. God wants you to fulfil your purpose, glorify Him, and experience His covenant of peace.

THERE'S A LIGHT THAT IS SHINING IN DARKNESS

1. There's a light that is shining in darkness,

While we wait for the dawning of day;

And it cheers us along on our journey,

Till the shadows shall vanish away !

 Prayers 

1.  Lord, thank You for the Holy Spirit who indwells us, empowering us to confess Jesus as Lord and Savior.

2.  Help us to remain spiritually alert, discerning the truth and resisting the lies of the enemy.

3.  Pray for others in this regard.
