TYPES OF WISDOM: THE WISDOM OF GOD

  • TODAY'S BIBLE TEXT

    Text: 1 Corinthians 2:6-7; Romans 16:25-26

    Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect:  yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:  But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:

      25 Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, 26 But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:

    TYPES OF WISDOM: THE WISDOM OF GOD

    Text: 1 Corinthians 2:6-7; Romans 16:25-26

    Memory verse: Colossians 1: 26 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints.

    God's wisdom is so deep that His ways are untraceable. You cannot know what He is doing without being hopeless over your head. It is so deep that no one has been or could be His counsellor, ever. In fact, the wisdom of God is so deep and so expansive that He does not and cannot increase in wisdom. The only way He could increase in wisdom is for something to come into God's mind that has not already come out of God's mind. But Romans 11:36 For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen. Apostle Paul insist that this cannot be done for from Him and through Him and to Him are all things.

    The wisdom of God tells us that God will bring about the best possible results, by the best possible means, for the most possible people, for the longest possible time. Let's say that out loud and weigh the words as they pass through our mouths.

    Wise living grows by receiving God's Word. Psalms 19:7 says, "The instruction of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is trustworthy, making the inexperienced wise." Nothing can match the Bible for showing you the mind of God. The more you sink roots in God through His Word, the more wisdom will mark your life.

    Proverbs 9:10: "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." Fearing the Lord is basically this: you recognize that He is the Creator, your Master, the Lord of all; He is holy and awesome and sovereign. And in response you willingly submit yourself to Him and His plan for your life. Without this, there is no wisdom. It starts with salvation. It continues in reverent humility.

    James 1:5-6: "Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without criticizing, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith without doubting. For the doubter is like the surging sea, driven and tossed by the wind." In other words, you don't come to God for a second opinion. We come to God to say, "Overwrite your wisdom on this, Lord. Whatever you show me, I will follow." There is a better way to reject our own wisdom and overwrite it with the infinite wisdom of God. God has charged Himself with full responsibility for our eternal happiness and stands ready to take over the management of our lives the moment we turn to Him in faith.

    CGDS HYMN 40: SS & S 530:

    WITH MY SAVIOUR EVER NEAR TO GUIDE ME

    1. With my Saviour ever near to guide me,

    I am safe, whatever may betide me;

    From the storm and tempest He will hide me

    In the hollow of His hand !

    Refrain:

    In the hollow ... of His hand I . . .

    In the hollow ... of His hand I . . .

    I am safe whatever may betide me,

    In the hollow of His hand !

    2. In His arms of love He doth enfold me ;

    Words of peace His voice divine hath told me ;

    I am safe, for God Himself doth hold me

    In the hollow of His hand !

    3. He will guard my soul, and leave me never;

    From His love no power on earth shall sever;

    And I know He'll keep me now and ever

    In the hollow of His hand !
