Text: John 14:12-14
12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. 13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT; PURPOSE
Text: John 14:12-14
Memory verse: Romans 12: 3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
The Gifts of the Holy Spirit are unique skills and abilities given by the Holy Spirit to faithful followers of Jesus Christ to serve God for the common benefit of his people, the church. Apostle Paul listed these gifts in 1 Corinthians 12:8-10 as wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, speaking in tongues, and interpretation of tongues.
The gifts of the Spirit are simply God empowering faithful Christians to do what He has called us to do. 2 Peter 1:3 says, "His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness." The gifts of the Holy Spirit are part of "everything we need" to accomplish His plans for our lives.
Apostle Paul instructed that "We have different gifts, according to the grace given to us... let us use them in proportion to our faith," Romans 12:6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith. These gifts are the manifestations of the power and authority given to you by the Holy Spirit in order to accomplish His will on earth. As Believers, we have an inheritance of power and authority.
Jesus said in John 14:12-14, “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it”.
The gifts of the Holy Spirit are not for you to use the way you want. They have specific purposes for God’s Kingdom. They are intended to glorify God by revealing more of who He is and displaying His sovereignty and power over all things. The purpose of the Spirit’s manifestations is to benefit the Body of Christ. “But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all…” 1 Corinthians 12:7 They are available to all Believers and distributed by the Holy Spirit according to His will. “But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.” 1 Corinthians 12:11
- TODAY'S HYMNAL
CGDS Hymn 17; SS & S 23;
TO GOD BE THE GLORY, GREAT THINGS HE HATH DONE
1. To God be the glory, great things He hath done,
So loved He the world that He gave us His Son,
Who yielded His life our redemption to win,
And opened the life-gate that all may go in.Refrain
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the earth hear His voice;
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the people rejoice;
Oh, come to the Father, through Jesus the Son,
And give Him the glory; great things He hath done.2. Oh, perfect redemption, the purchase of blood,
To every believer the promise of God;
The vilest offender who truly believes,
That moment from Jesus a pardon receives.3. Great things He hath taught us, great things He hath done,
And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son;
But purer, and higher, and greater will be
Our wonder, our transport when Jesus we see. - TODAY'S PRAYERS
