THE HOLY SPIRIT COMFORTS US THROUGH THE WORD OF GOD
- TODAY'S BIBLE TEXT
Text: John 16:12-15
12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. 13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come. 14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you. 15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall show it unto you.

THE HOLY SPIRIT COMFORTS US THROUGH THE WORD OF GOD
Text: John 16:12-15
Memory verse: John 14: 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you and shall be in you.
Jesus said, “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.”
I am grateful that we have access to the Word of God, but I’m also aware of the fact that we would not truly understand what we are reading, or how to apply it, if not for the intervention of the Holy Spirit. Jesus made that clear to us in His earthly ministry. Jesus explained that the Spirit would guide us toward and help us understand what is true. During the era of the early church, the Spirit inspired the writers of the New Testament to convey the teachings it contains. Now, He helps us understand what was written and apply it to our daily lives.
I am also convinced that if we have come to a place in our lives where we value the teachings of God’s Word, that’s only because the Spirit has helped us to value it. The unbelieving world treats the Scripture like it’s a fantasy tale. Even though, by and large, they have not taken the time to read it, they are eager to dismiss it. But we who are indwelled by the Spirit can testify to the many ways He has used the Scripture to bring us comfort, wisdom, guidance, and help. This is a major facet of His present-day ministry. As Christ is represented the ambassador of the Father, so the Holy Spirit is represented the ambassador of the Son, coming vested with his authority, as the interpreter and executor of his will.
- TODAY'S HYMNAL
CGDS Hymn 15; SS&S 607
I AM THINE, O LORD, I HAVE HEARD THY VOICE
1. I am Thine, O Lord, I have heard Thy voice,
And it told Thy love to me;
But I long to rise in the arms of faith,
And be closer drawn to Thee.Refrain
Draw me nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,
To the cross where Thou hast died;
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,
To Thy precious, bleeding side.2. Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord,
By the power of grace divine;
Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,
And my will be lost in Thine.3. O the pure delight of a single hour
That before Thy throne I spend,
When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God,
I commune as friend with friend!4. There are depths of love that I may not know
Till I cross the narrow sea;
There are heights of joy that I may not reach
Till I rest in peace with Thee. - TODAY'S PRAYERS
