THE HOLY SPIRIT COMFORTS US THROUGH HIS PRESENCE

  • TODAY'S BIBLE TEXT

    Text: John 14:16-18

    16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;  17 Even the Spirit of truth;  whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him:  but ye know him;  for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 18 I will not leave you comfortless:  I will come to you.

    THE HOLY SPIRIT COMFORTS US THROUGH HIS PRESENCE

    Text: John 14:16-18

    Memory verse: Romans 15:13 Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

    The Holy Spirit comforts us through His presence. The presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives is consequential. We have not been left alone in this world to navigate life without help. The Holy Spirit is present with us and within us. He lives within all who trust in Jesus. The rest of this world is walking by sight, but we as believers in Christ are walking by faith.  As we continue this walk of faith, we’re assured that the power and presence of the Holy Spirit is going to be manifested in our lives in various ways.

    His presence in our lives fills us with hope instead of doubt and despair.  His presence in our lives produces the fruit of joy instead of a dreadful dependence on our circumstances to somehow produce temporary happiness.  His presence in our lives produces peace instead of worries.  Worry takes root when we are convinced that we are alone and on our own, but worry is defeated when we realize that the Holy Spirit is present with us and never leaves the children of God alone to fend for themselves in this world.

    John 14: 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever. The Holy Spirit is called the comforter because He transacts the cause of God and Christ with us, explains to us the nature and importance of the great atonement, shows the necessity of it, counsels us to receive it, instructs us how to lay hold on it, vindicates our claim to it, and makes intercessions in us with unutterable groanings. As Christ acted with his disciples while he sojourned with them, so the Holy Ghost acts with those who believe in the name of Jesus. As the death and atonement of Christ will be necessary to man till the conclusion of the world, so the office of the Holy Spirit must be continued among men till the end of time: Jesus said, He shall continue with you for ever, teaching, comforting, advising, defending, and interceding for you and for all His followers to the end of time.

  • TODAY'S HYMNAL

    CGDS Hymn 9; SS&S 577:

    I NEED THEE EVERY HOUR

    1. I need Thee every hour,

    Most gracious Lord;

    No tender voice like Thine

    Can peace afford.

    Refrain

    I need Thee, oh, I need Thee ;

    Every hour I need Thee ;

    Oh, bless me now, my Saviour !

    I come to Thee.

    2. I need Thee every hour,

    Stay Thou near by ;

    Temptations lose their power

    When Thou art nigh.

    3. I need Thee every hour,

    In joy or pain ;

    Come quickly and abide,

    Or life is vain.

    4. I need Thee every hour ;

    Teach me Thy will ;

    And Thy rich promises

    In me fulfil.

    5. I need Thee every hour,

    Most Holy One :

    Oh, make me Thine indeed,

    Thou blessed Son.
