  • TODAY'S BIBLE TEXT

    Text: 1 Corinthians 6:15-20

    15 Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ?  shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot?  God forbid.   16 What?  know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body?  for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.   17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.   18 Flee fornication.   Every sin that a man doeth is without the body;  but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.   19 What?  know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?  20 For ye are bought with a price:  therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

    THE TEMPLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

    Text: 1 Corinthians 6:15-20

    Memory verse: 1 Corinthians 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost, which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

    We have three parts to our beings, the body, soul, and the spirit. Our human spirits are referred to as our innermost being, the Holy Spirit repositioned in your human spirit. As a result of the Holy Spirit now living in your human spirit, then your body now becomes the “temple” of the Holy Spirit since you now carry His actual presence inside of you.

    “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore, glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

    “If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.” “But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.” “But if the Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.”

    When the word of God tells you to glorify God in both your body and your spirit. It is an insight that the Holy Spirit is now living in your human spirits and as such, your body is now His temple. Take note not your “soul” but only “spirit.” Our souls and spirits are two separate parts of you. When the Holy Spirit comes into you, He will take up residence in your human spirits. However, I believe there is a second experience that can take place where the Holy Spirit will release from your human spirit to come up into your soul area. This experience is called by many, “the Baptism of the Holy Spirit”. Your spirit is baptized with His presence at the point of surrendering to Christ, but your soul can also be baptized with His presence.

    If you have not received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit to begin to reside in your soul, and you are willing and ready to take this extra step to receive this second gift that is available to all believers, your life will have a major turn in the Lord.

  • TODAY'S HYMNAL

    CGDS HYMN 28: SS&S 190:

    COME, HOLY SPIRIT, COME

    1. Come, Holy Spirit, come;

    Let Thy bright beams arise,

    Dispel the darkness from our minds,

    And open all our eyes.

    2. Revive our drooping faith,

    Our doubts and fears remove,

    And kindle in our breasts the flame

    Of never-dying love.

    3. Convince us of our sin,

    Then lead to Jesus' blood,

    And to our wondering view reveal

    The secret love of God.

    4. ‘Tis Thine to cleanse the heart,

    To sanctify the soul,

    To pour fresh life in every part,

    And new-create the whole.

    5. Dwell therefore in our hearts,

    Our minds from bondage free ;

    Then we shall know, and praise, and love

    The Father, Son, and Thee !
