 THE HOLY SPIRIT TEACHES US TO PRAY

  • TODAY'S BIBLE TEXT

     Text: Galatians 4:5-6

     To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.  And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

    THE HOLY SPIRIT TEACHES US TO PRAY

    Text: Galatians 4:5-6

    Memory verse: Romans 8: 15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

    The Holy Spirit encourages you to ask your heavenly Father for what you need. He reminds you to pray for others and their needs. And He gives you faith to believe God will give you what you ask for. But sometimes you don’t even know what you need. You might ask for the wrong things. So, the Holy Spirit, your helpful Friend, is right there to put in your mind what to ask in prayer both for yourself and for others.

    You are brought into the family of God by adoption; and the agent that brought you into this family is the Holy Spirit; and this very Spirit continues to witness to you the grace in which you stand, by enabling you to call God your Father, with the utmost confidence and affection. God has chosen to work through your prayers. So, when you are aligned with Him you become His child and He tell His children to pray. Then He does what is necessary in answer to their prayers. This is how He saves souls, sends revival, heals the sick, solves problems, and supplies needs. Philippians 4: 6 Be careful of nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

    God gives you the responsibility of praying for your family, your friends, your church, your country, and your world. How you pray affects God’s work all around the world. The Holy Spirit may impress on you to pray for a certain man without letting you know what his needs are. Maybe the person is extremely sick, or in great danger, or facing a terrible temptation, or in urgent need of supernatural power to do God’s work. Your prayers will help troubled men.

    Ephesians 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints. Pray on every occasion, as the Spirit leads. For this reason, keep alert and never give up; pray always for all God’s people. That holy prayers may proceed from the Holy Spirit.

  • TODAY'S HYMNAL

    CGDS HYMN 6; SS&S 201:

    SPIRIT DIVINE, ATTEND OUR PRAYERS

    1. Spirit divine, attend our prayers,

    and make this house thy home;

    descend with all thy gracious powers,

    come, great Spirit, come!

    2. Come as the light; to us reveal

    our emptiness and woe,

    and lead us in those paths of life

    whereon the righteous go.

    3. Come as the fire and purge our hearts

    like sacrificial flame;

    let our whole soul an offering be

    to our Redeemer's Name.

    4. Come as the dove, and spread thy wings,

    the wings of peaceful love;

    and let thy Church on earth become

    blest as the Church above.

    5. Come as the dew and sweetly bless

    this consecrated hour;

    may barrenness rejoice to own

    thy fertilizing power.

    6. Spirit divine, attend our prayers,

    make a lost world thy home;

    descend with all thy gracious powers;

    come, great Spirit, come!

       Prayers:

    1.  Holy Spirit, empower me to pray ceaselessly in this end time, in Jesus’ name.

    2.  LORD God Almighty, pour on me afresh the spirit of grace and supplication to tarry always in the place of prayers in Jesus’ name. Amen.
